HONOURING THE TRADITIONAL OWNERS OF THE LANDS WE VISIT

RECOGNISING THE DEEP CULTURAL, SPIRITUAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL SIGNIFICANCE OF COUNTRY ACROSS TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands, waters, and skies across Far North Queensland.

We honour their deep and enduring connection to Country and pay our respects to Elders past and present. These lands have been cared for over countless generations, and we are privileged to operate on Country of profound cultural, spiritual, and environmental significance.

DAINTREE REGION

PORT DOUGLAS - MOSSMAN GORGE - CAPE TRIBULATION

 

We acknowledge and pay respects to the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people, the Traditional Owners of the Daintree region, including Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, and Cape Tribulation. Their Country extends from near Cooktown southward through the rainforest, river systems, coastlines, and unbroken canopies of this incredible landscape.

 

The Eastern Kuku Yalanji people maintain a living cultural connection to the world's oldest surviving tropical rainforest, sharing a deep understanding of the land, its seasons, and its stories. We are grateful to bring visitors into a region shaped and protected by tens of thousands of years of cultural knowledge.

ATHERTON TABLELANDS

LAKE EACHAM - MALANDA - MILLAA MILLAA FALLS

 

We acknowledge the Dulgubarra Yidinji, Ngadjon-Jii, and other Rainforest Aboriginal peoples whose Country encompasses parts of the Atherton Tablelands, including Lake Eacham (Yidyam), Malanda, and Millaa Millaa Falls.

 

These areas are places of rich biodiversity, freshwater significance, and cultural meaning. The Rainforest Peoples of this region have cared for these volcanic lakes, waterfalls, and forest systems through deep ecological knowledge and stories passed through generations.

CAIRNS & SURROUNDS

BARRON GORGE - LITTLE MULGRAVE RIVER - TRINITY INLET

 

We acknowledge the Djirrbal, Yidinji, and Gimuy-Walubara Yidinji peoples as the Traditional Owners of the landscapes and waterways surrounding Cairns. 

 

Barron Gorge sits on Djirrbal and Yidinji Country, where dramatic escarpments, waterfalls, and rainforest habitats hold profound cultural importance. 

Little Mulgrave River flows through Country connected to rainforest peoples with longstanding ties to freshwater ecosystems. 

Trinity Inlet lies on Gimuy-Walubara Yidinji Country, a place of saltwater stories, mangrove life, and deep cultural significance where ancient pathways meet the modern city of Cairns.

SOUTHERN RAINFOREST & GORGE REGIONS

BABINDA BOULDERS - JOSEPHINE FALLS - TULLY GORGE

 

We acknowledge the Yidinji, Warrgamay, and Girramay peoples whose Country includes the lush rainforest and powerful waterways of Babinda Boulders, Josephine Falls, and Tully Gorge.

 

These areas are known for their cascading waters, granite formations, and strong cultural stories. Tully Gorge in particular holds importance for the Rainforest Aboriginal peoples whose knowledge guides understanding of landforms, weather patterns, and seasonal changes through this rugged terrain.
